With the unfortunate news that our first day Grouse shooting at the wonderful Glenogil Estate, Scotland had been cancelled due to the poor breeding season for grouse I was relieved to hear that an alternative two days had been booked at Swinton Park in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.

Swinton Park is owned by Mark (the current Baron of Masham) and his wife Felicity along with 20,000 acres of surrounding estate much of which is prime grouse shooting moorland. The accommodation and hospitality were excellent and we were accompanied on both days by Mark who ensured a very well organised and successful shoot. Just over 300 brace of grouse were accounted for between 8 guns. For 2 of these it was their first experience of shooting driven grouse and both acquitted themselves admirably especially Yousef Al Qatami, son of Anwar and Iman. Clearly Yousef shares his father’s ability to shoot.

Lunch on both days was taken in two shooting lodges positioned on the moor and the food was absolutely wonderful. Overall this was a fantastic shooting experience and I can highly recommend Swinton Park to any discerning shooters looking for a truly excellent days sport.
